A Special Place

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.

- John Muir

I enjoy spending time on a trail behind my sister's house.  The trail has not be used in a long time and is grown in with brush in some places.  I used to go on the trail with my dad while he was training his horses.  There is a place on the trail where the trees create an arch that is like a long green tunnel.  When I walk through this section of the trail I feel like I am protected.  It is the place where my dad would stop and let the horses rest.  We would just sit and listen to the breeze rustle the leaves on the trees.  Whenever I feel lonely I go for a walk on the trail and it makes me feel better.

Describe a place that you have traveled to that is close to your heart.  What is special about the this place?  (It doesn't have to be a vacation spot.  Some of the most special places are close to home.)

  1. Although most people would have an answer such as “My Camp” or “Our summer cottage,” I have a very unique answer to this question: With a good book, anywhere or anytime, I can be happy. Throughout my life, I have found that the best books make me feel the world inside it, and gives me an escape, and some for years after reading I can come back and enjoy it just as much. For this reason, It doesn’t matter where I am. As well, a good book can calm my mind, and remove stress, an added benefit. Finally, books can give people inspiration, making you think heavily, something I enjoy. For these reasons, I have chose this topic as my “place."

    1. I like how you have a very unique "place" and not like other people. I know how a good book can be a getaway from the real world and you can feel like your in it. what is a book you go back to a lot?

  2. My special place is at my camp’s dock looking at the lake. The lake is clear on nice days and You can see the sky reflecting on the water. you can see little fish swimming around my feet. You can see all the other cabins on the lake. I like to see people on boats and kayaks. It makes me happy to see the water so clean and not dirty by the city and to see all the animals swimming around. my dad and I love fishing on the beautiful lake and can’t wait to be there next summer. To see that lake that I have so many memories with.

  3. The place that I hold close to my heart is Boin Mountain. This ski hill is special to me because it is a beautiful place where I learned how to snowboard. Imagine, trees, with icicles hanging from them, completely frosted over. The hills are perfectly groomed. Perfect for snowboarding. We were on the hill from 8:00 to 12:00 then I went in for a lunch of sour cream, black olives, and bacon chunks. After that, I went back out from 12:30 to 8:00 to snowboard for five days. It was snowboarding all day every day for five days and it was awesome. It also had a water park that we went to one of the days. It had all kinds of slides. On the last day we were there I went snowboarding and ate beavertails all day. That is why I like Boin Mountain so much.

  5. My favourite spot is my Grandma’s kitchen.

It smells good it has boxes of goods on the counter. The table has bread on it and peanut butter. Brodie is fixing himself a peanut butter sandwich and Grandma just pulled out a fresh batch of cookies. Jack waiting for Brodie to finish his sandwich and the fridge has apple juice and lemonade and a carrot. The one drawer has the peeler for the carrots and a cupboard has cups and plates. Underneath the sink is the garbage which slides right out.

    1. Reading this reminds me of my Grandma's house, and how she always had freshly baked sweets out when I biked down. I can almost see, smell and hear this scene. Well written Rylan!

  6. The place that is closest to my heart is in the hockey rink on the ice. My happy place is on the ice because there is so much freedom you get to make your own choices and people can’t force you to do anything. When I’m on the ice I don’t really talk I just listen to the sounds, my skates cutting the ice, my stick when I shoot, and the sound of pucks.

  7. My happy place is the meadow behind my house. It makes me happy because it looks like a little slice of heaven, in the summer it has fresh flowers everywhere and in the winter the snow glistens like teeny weeny diamonds. I go there to think and/or process what is going on. I can spend hours and hours there reading, listening or just sleeping. Whenever I go there I think of my old dog Chance,( it means luck in french) when I am there I listen to the birds chirping and the rustle of the leaves. That is why it’s my special place.

  8. My favorite place: the back of my grandma house
At the back of my grandma’s house, there is a barn. It was my grandpa’s barn. I like to go there because it makes me feel close to my grandpa and grandma. I feel like they are there with me and I feel close to me and the memory of my grandma and how she will play with me back there. We would play games like hide and seek and sometimes we just like to talk and walk, She would tell stories to me like when I would punch my grandpa’s newspaper out of his hand and run away. He would always laugh I was only small he passed away.

  9. I have lots of special spots, but I have only one that is very special. My camp, me and my family have lots of memories there from swimming, laying in the sun, trying to get our boat at the shore. And of course late-night campfires. Every year we always go hunting and fishing there, even though we pretty much get nothing. My camp is peaceful and thrilling. It’s peaceful when my mom and I are down by the water relaxing and thrilling when me my dad and brothers do insane things. My camp is overlooking a big lake and it’s on top of a hill. There is a big tree down by the water it looks like it’s going to collapse because it’s so big and pretty much dead. My parent’s friends have cows up behind our property, we see the cows sometimes. We have been at my camp for longer than I was alive, we have so many great memories there.

  10. Grende Lake is my happy place. My family and I have been going there for a couple of years now. It's a campground that we go to in the summer, usually in the middle of August when the weather is nice and sunny. We always go to the same campsite which is on its own little island. We have to canoe to the island and the view is always beautiful. I love nature and it is a place where I can relax and hang out with my family. We go cliff jumping, fishing, canoeing, star gazing, play games, and have campfires. My family and I have made so many memories at Grende Lake and I would love to go again.

  11. My happy place is Rogers Centre in Toronto. This is my happy place because I like watching baseball and when you first walk out to the stands it’s the best view and feeling. It is fun to watch and my favourite memory from being there is when I got a ball from an Outfielder on the Braves. It is also fun to stay at a hotel or ride the subway and spend time with my family and friends. These are my reasons why I love to go to Rogers Centre.

  12. My happy place is my nan and boppies( my grandparents) house. My nan's house is my happy place because whenever I go there they always have good food and I can eat whatever. Also when I go there I mostly sit there on the couch and do nothing but I also help my nan with stuff if she needs help. Sometimes she buys me foods I like just for her house because I'm the only grandkid that goes and visits them. I love going there whenever because they do miss me when I don’t go.

  13. My happiest place is on stage and performing. Being on stage and performing and acting makes me happy, relieves stress, and calms me down. The stage is my happy place because I’ve been acting and performing since I was little and I enjoy it a lot. Also if I’m having a bad day if I go on stage and act my day becomes 100% better. Acting makes me happy and being on stage is my happy place, and makes me feel safe and I have fun.

My special place is my Grandmas’s house. It is a brick house and has a deck on the side. The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, a dining room, and an upstairs and a downstairs. I like it because it is extraordinary. I go there a lot to see my cousins and to bake or sew. I love that when I’m there, I don’t have to any work, and I can do stuff that I can’t do at home, like watch hockey games on the TV and play with my Grandma’s kitten. In conclusion, I really like to go to my Grandma’s house because I am free to do things that I want to do.
